Enless Wireless joins the project for the total renovation of the Paris Commodity Exchange to house the Pinault art Collection
From a historic edifice to a showcase for art: the birth of the Paris Museum of Art
Dating back to the 16th century, the Paris Commodity Exchange is an edifice emblematic of the History of Paris, and by extension of the History of France. Converted to a Commodity Exchange in 1889, the building suffered extensive deterioration and metamorphoses over the years and was classified as a Historic Monument at the same time as Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral.
Situated in the very heart of the capital, the Commodity Exchange enjoys an ideal location, which led François Pinault, one of the biggest collectors of contemporary art, and the great Japanese architect Tadao Ando to launch a project to convert the edifice into an art museum which will welcome its first visitors in 2020.
With 3,000 m2 of modular exhibition space, the Musée de la Bourse de Commerce will be dedicated to showcasing the Pinault collection along with the works of other artists selected by François Pinault, and will be able to accommodate major events (screenings, concerts, performances, etc).
Requiring complete renovation, the project has multiple challenges: design, visitor comfort, and physical preservation of artworks.
Sitework for the redevelopment and restoration of the historic Commodity Exchange began in the summer of 2017, led by Bouygues Energies & Services*, a subsidiary of Bouygues Construction Group and a global player in the services industry ranging from energy to digital, with many accomplishments in cultural facilities (Salle Pleyel, Musée du Louvre, Musée d’Orsay …).
This total revamp faces many challenges. As Martin Bethenod, Managing Director of the Commodity Exchange, says, not did they have to consider design from an artistic point of view, but the pragmatic issue of visitor comfort and preservation of artworks was critical to the project:
“Of particular concern, along with the pragmatic constraints imposed by a historic building, was to enable artificial and natural climatic and lighting conditions, and technical features to ensure legibility, continuity, and comfort for visitors passing through it.”
Temperature & humidity monitoring is a key part of the project
To meet these project challenges, “temperature and humidity monitoring” was made a key component of the project. The first major requirement was to produce a detailed study of the impact of climate and light on the temperature and humidity of the site, with a view to guaranteeing an adequate level of comfort in the building, which was scheduled to open for visitors in 2020.
For this purpose, in 2018, 10 Enless Wireless ambient temperature and humidity transmitters communicating over Wireless M-Bus 169 MHz private radio mode were installed at the Commodities Exchange to monitor temperature automatically in real time, in the various rooms of the building.
The temperature and humidity data is sent by radio to the Modbus Enless Wireless receiver connected to an onsite Distech unit. Data is monitored via an MMI screen. Initial tests show conclusive results.
ARCONTROLS[FR], a distributor of regulation systems for peripherals, is the company that recommended Enless Wireless solutions. ARCONTROLS focuses on system integrators and HVAC installers, with 85% of its business in the Ile-de-France (Greater Paris) region.
Franck Tregous, technical sales support at ARCONTROLS, says: “I had the opportunity to test and use Enless solutions, particularly in my previous role as integrator. Enless Wireless M-Bus 169 MHz transmitters have an impressive range and the signals are very strong. Data uploads are reliable and the sensors are really easy to use. And thanks to its non-operated wireless technology, customers don’t pay subscription fees.”
àThe fully renovated Commodities Market is scheduled to open by the end of June 2020. The building has also received High Environmental Quality (HQE) certification.
