What is the current situation in Spain's energy sector?
Like many European countries, Spain’s energy sector is experiencing significant technological innovation, driven not only by a favorable legal and policy environment but also by increased competition in the sector.
Furthermore, given the substantial increase in electricity and gas costs in Spain over the past decade (+70%!), finding new ways to improve household energy efficiency is essential.
Gashogar, a major energy player in Spain, is committing to this initiative with the launch of Efiplus

With over 50 years of experience in the energy sector, Gashogar—a company specializing in the distribution of natural gas throughout Spain—has decided to take the next step with the launch of its new“Efiplus”project.
A pioneering system in Spain based on IoT (Internet of Things) technology, Efiplus enables real-time measurement of gas and electricity consumption, allowing building owners to monitor their overall energy usage.
More specifically, “Efiplus” makes it easy to convert traditional gas meters into smart meters by installing solutions for the automatic and remote collection of meter data via Enless Wireless’s ATEX-certified wireless transmitters.
Efiplus is an innovative device in that it can be easily integrated into a building’s gas and electricity networks without requiring a complete overhaul of existing systems. Every day, thanks to the IoT, real-time consumption data can be viewed through software made available free of charge to facility managers. This management software allows users to generate consumption reports at predefined intervals and to set up alarm systems in case thresholds are exceeded, serving a variety of objectives and benefits:
- Forecast / estimate of upcoming invoices
- Identifying inefficiencies or areas for improvement
- Detection of incidents and abnormal usage (leaks, etc.)

Enless Wireless ATEX-certified wireless transmitters at the heart of the project

The Efiplus pilot project, which was launched earlier this year , involves the first 160 devices equipped with an equal number of ATEX-certified (Explosive Atmospheres) wireless remote-reading transmitters from Enless Wireless. Operating via the Sigfox communication protocol, the data collected daily by the transmitters is transmitted to the cloud of the Spanish Sigfox operator Cellnex, where it is then analyzed and visualized using management software developed by Gashogar.
Dset Solutions, a Spanish specialist in energy efficiency through its Dset Energy division and a distributor of Enless Wireless IoT solutions, states: “Enless Wireless’s ATEX-certified remote meter reading solutions were perfectly suited to the needs of our client, a leading company in the gas sector. The reliability of Enless products, their quick and efficient integration into Gashogar’s operations, and their excellent value for money made them the ideal solution!”
Lucía Sancho, Efiplus Project Manager at Gashogar, adds: “Thanks to its easy installation, Enless provided us with a customized solution that was simple and quick to implement.Enless’s technical expertise, combined with wireless [IoT] communication, enables us to achieve the objectives of the ‘Efiplus’ project.”

What's next?
Thanks to the Efiplus project, Gashogar has become the first national distributor to offer its customers a 100% free energy usage management service.
Currently under development—with 160 devices already deployed during the pilot phase—the Efiplus project aims to achieve 100% customer coverage in the near future.
“The initial feedback has been extremely positive, and we’re continuing to work to move the project forward effectively,”says Lucía Sancho of Efiplus.
