The project is part of Singapore’s KKH Hospital’s ongoing efforts to improve its facilities and create a more holistic healthcare environment for the benefit of patients.
SINGAPORE, June 20, 2019 – Healthcare facilities are complex ecosystems comprising various types of buildings and numerous services, each with its own specific characteristics and compliance standards regarding temperature and humidity control. Maintaining these parameters is critical: for example, excessively high temperatures and low humidity can adversely affect the integrity of treatments and medications.
It was in this context, and to meet the goal of Singapore’s KKH Hospital to improve its healthcare facilities and deliver a better patient experience, that Enless Wireless, ENGIE, and UnaBiz collaborated on a smart data management project. The project involved the implementation of a temperature and humidity monitoring system throughout the hospital’s various areas. This system relied on data collection via low-power sensors that automatically transmitted the received information, thereby enabling remote monitoring of temperature and humidity parameters. In addition to the obvious improvement in patient comfort, the goal of the installation was to enable rapid detection of anomalies and thus their resolution in a timely manner.
More than 100 ENLESS WIRELESS temperature and humidity sensors have been deployed at KKH in departments such as intensive care units, outpatient clinics, and pharmacies. The hospital is already seeing encouraging results from this pioneering project. Feedback from the hospital’s internal facilities management department highlights the department’s ability to respond quickly when critical thresholds are exceeded, thanks to automatically transmitted temperature alarms.
Thanks to the deployment of sensors that collect ambient temperature and humidity data, KKH staff no longer need to manually maintain daily temperature logs (a task that previously required round-the-clock, non-stop monitoring). This frees up more time for them to care for patients. Furthermore, digital records are much faster, more accurate, and more efficient: comparative analysis of data by time period is now possible.
“ENGIE is delighted to partner with UnaBiz and Enless Wireless to launch this solution for KKH. As KKH’s facilities management partner, we strive to create the best possible environment for patient recovery. “Thanks to the successful implementation of this innovative initiative to monitor the hospital’s indoor environment, KKH is better equipped to provide high-quality healthcare for hospitalized women and children,” said Yeo Kong Nee, Managing Director of ENGIE Services Singapore.
Jonathan Tan, CEO of UnaBiz, adds: “We are particularly pleased to support KKH in this pilot project. The project is an excellent example of how the Internet of Things can be used to add value to the way people do their jobs. And this is just the beginning; the solution is highly scalable and easy to implement for healthcare facilities around the world. We want to help healthcare professionals provide the best possible environment for patients. Together, we can better care for our loved ones.”
“ENLESS WIRELESS sensors are designed and developed for energy efficiency and building management applications. We are pleased that our long-range, low-power, and easy-to-implement solution can help reduce KKH’s energy consumption and, above all, improve the comfort of its occupants and visitors, ” said Bruno Petit, founder and CEO of Enless Wireless.
