Established in 2012, the SNCF Charentes-Périgord Technical Center is one of ten industrial technical centers affiliated with the Rolling Stock Division of SNCF Mobilités, part of the SNCF Group, one of Europe’s leading transportation and logistics groups. With a total of 750 dedicated employees, it oversees the rolling stock division—that is, the design, modification, and maintenance of railway components.
The project carried out by the Charentes-Périgord Technical Center at its Périgueux site involved replacing its obsolete industrial air heater control panels with automated panels connected to an internal monitoring system. The Technicentre sought to achieve energy savings on utilities, particularly natural gas, and to implement temperature monitoring in the workshops in order to standardize temperature thresholds.
To implement this project, sixty-five Enless Wireless 169 MHz Wireless M-Bus room temperature transmitters were installed in the technical center’s workshops and paired with receivers. contact transmitters with status change reportingwerealso installed to monitor the position of the shutters closing off access to the outside. The site’s GRDF gas supply meters were also connected to Enless remote meter reading transmitters, ATEX-certified to monitor the facility’s gas consumption.
Connecting the controllers responsible for collecting data transmitted by Enless Wireless sensors to the visualization platform developed in-house enables real-time monitoring of the facilities.
The systems installed in half of the site’s workshops have already enabled the technical center to achieve a 25% reduction in natural gas consumption in 2018 compared to 2017. SNCF Mobilités plans to retrofit all of its workshops by the end of 2019.
