Enless Wireless is pleased to announce the availability of its new LoRaWAN temperaturesensor with a black bulb probe starting May 2025. This sensor measures ambienttemperature, a key indicator for BMS looking to optimize both occupant comfort and building energy performance.
Why measure the resulting temperature in BMS
The resulting temperature is the average of the ambient air temperature and the radiant temperature of the surrounding surfaces (walls, windows, ceilings, etc.). This measurement is much more representative of how occupants actually feel. Indeed, in a sunny room with exposed windows, the air temperature may seem acceptable, while solar radiation creates a feeling of discomfort.
A conventional sensor does not detect this nuance. The black-ball sensor, on the other hand, accounts for these radiation effects, making the data much more relevant for control systems.
A high-performance sensor for BMS integrators
Integrating a black-ball sensor into a BMS system BMS numerous practical benefits.
- Smart HVAC Control By accurately measuring thermal comfort, heating, cooling, and ventilation systems can adjust their operation in real time, without wasting energy or causing discomfort to occupants.
- Better prediction of overheating The sensor detects temperature increases caused by solar radiation before the ambient air is affected, triggering, for example, the opening of sunshades or natural ventilation.
- Zone-Specific Comfort In a multi-zone building, the perceived temperature can vary significantly depending on factors such as exposure, ceiling height, and insulation. The black globe sensor enables more precise zone-by-zone control, with setpoints tailored to the specific conditions of each space.
Features of the Enless black-ball sensor
This black-ball LoRaWAN sensor provides accurate measurement of ambient temperature, long-range radio transmission via LoRaWAN or proprietary LoRa, a battery life of up to 15 years thanks to its high-capacity D-cell battery, and simplified integration into BMS, with Modbus or BACnet compatibility via Enless receivers.
