Energy Optimization of Public Housing with Neol

A ten-year partnership

Enless Wireless has been collaborating for about ten years with Néol, a Lyon–Grenoble-based integrator of smart building solutions for energy monitoring. Néol focuses on the sale and installation of energy monitoring, remote management, and building automation systems that incorporate data tracking and analysis. Social housing providers make up a large portion of Néol’s client base; the company works notably with Société Dauphinoise pour l’Habitat in Isère and Immobilière Rhône Alpes in Lyon.

The collaboration between the two organizations in this sector has been demonstrated through several projects aimed at monitoring energy and water consumption in public housing by reading energy and water meters and ensuring the proper functioning of boiler rooms (monitoring the temperatures of domestic hot water distribution and circulation systems to prevent any risk of Legionnaires' disease).

For these projects, measurements are often taken at a rate of one data transmission per hour, which allows for continuous monitoring of the sites.

Systems incorporating multiple Enless Wireless contact-type temperature transmitters as well as Pulse Enless pulse counter transmitters have been deployed at various sites using either the Wireless M-Bus private radio communication protocol in conjunction with a PLC or the Sigfox public network.

“I appreciate the ruggedness of Enless transmitters. They’re products we can rely on. We experience very few, if any, breakdowns, which translates into real savings for us in terms of travel costs for our teams. Furthermore, in my opinion, Enless Pulse transmitters are the easiest products on the market to install. The Enless team is responsive when it comes to delivery, and the customer service is really good,” says Pascal Euvrard, manager of NéOL.

The partnership between Néol and Enless Wireless is also making strides in another growing sector: industry. For instance, a few months ago, the two companies worked together to implement a solution for measuring water and gas consumption in the industrial processes of a company specializing in fabric dyeing. Fabric dyeing requires large amounts of energy to heat the dye baths; in this case, heating is provided by a gas-fired boiler system. The thermal energy recovered during the process is also monitored.

A dozen Pulse and Pulse Atex Enless Wireless transmitters were installed to monitor the site’s overall energy consumption.

Since the implementation of the automatic alarm system for excessive or insufficient energy consumption, significant energy savings have been observed.

How is the data from the transmitters then used to perform the energy audit?

Measuring energy consumption and temperatures remains the first essential step in saving energy. The Néol platform, combined with Enless Wireless sensors, detects anomalies and sends alerts, particularly when consumption is too high.

Neol is developing a customizable remote monitoring platform designed for use across all industries. It generates alerts for the operator, the service provider, or the end customer in the event of excessive consumption. This customizable solution also allows for the generation of annual or monthly reports based on customer needs. Customer accounts can be configured to grant access.

About Néol:

Néol, a systems integrator based in the Lyon–Grenoble region, specializes in the sale and installation of energy monitoring, remote management, and building automation systems. Since March 2019, it has been part of the AER Group, which employs approximately 20 people.

The AER Group consists of three organizations dedicated to energy efficiency:

  • AER, a specialist in HVAC control systems, automation, monitoring, and electrical installations (boiler rooms, district heating systems, and Centralized Technical Management)
  • France Equilibrage, a company specializing in the hydraulic and air balancing of systems (heating, air conditioning)
  • NéOL, which provides energy monitoring solutions for residential, commercial, and industrial buildings

Neol also works as a subcontractor on certain projects led by heating providers such as Engie Cofely, Idex, Veolia, Dalkia, and others…
