Among the sectors where added value lies in maintaining high quality standards is the hospitality industry in France’s tourist regions, which is subject to stringent requirements. It is therefore crucial to monitor the facilities at these sites in real time and in an automated manner.
French regulations require hotels to perform regular readings of their boiler systems, and hotel chains also mandate relatively frequent readings (twice a day on average). Implementing an automated data logging solution that includes an integrated real-time visualization and alert system allows establishments—which are often concerned with optimizing their labor costs—to eliminate the need for manual data logging.
Froid Méditerranéen, a company specializing in HVAC installation and maintenance (including heating and air conditioning installations and renovations), has been active in this field for nearly 30 years. Based in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region and specializing in the hospitality sector as well as public institutions (primarily schools and educational facilities), Froid-Med works on projects involving heating, plumbing, air conditioning, and even electrical work. It primarily serves franchise establishments and works notably on behalf of hotels in the Accor group through its two sites in Marseille (managing the Bouches-du-Rhône region) and Nice (Acces Froid-Med managing the Alpes-Maritimes and Var regions), supported by a team of 17 employees.
This heating system expert has installed several systems that incorporate Enless Wireless 169 MHz Wireless M-Bus and Sigfox sensors for monitoring domestic hot water systems, as well as for the maintenance and control of heat pumps.
At one of the hotel sites he manages, 10 temperature sensors with external contact probes have been installed, communicating via radio using the Wireless M-Bus protocol on the 169 MHz frequency band. The transmitters communicate with an Enless Modbus receiver, which is itself connected to an Ewon gateway. The temperature readings are sent toIOThink’s Kheiron visualization and alert platform, as illustrated in the following diagram.
The system recently installed enabled the detection of malfunctions in the existing boiler room (issues with the domestic hot water circuit’s recirculation loop, which led to an outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease). The rapid and automatic detection of the failure allowed the facility to respond quickly, thereby preventing the spread of the bacteria and ordering a complete overhaul of its entire boiler system.
A second site was equipped by the operator Froid-Med, involving a property in the Novotel chain. Several Enless Wireless contact-type temperature transmitters , this time communicating via radio using the Sigfox protocol, were installed to manage the property’s DHW system. Enless Wireless contact/status change transmitters were also installed on the site’s heat pumps. They recently detected that one of the technicians responsible for site operations had improperly restarted the equipment. The automatic heat pump failure alert, which occurred in real time, allowed the facility to prevent a decline in occupant comfort during the winter and maintain the quality of its customer relations.
This Enless Wireless – IoThink “plug-and-play” turnkey solution, implemented by Froid-Med, has also been deployed in several high schools and educational institutions in the region to manage their HVAC systems.
