The city of Le Havre (France) entrusts its Global Public Contract for Energy Performance to the CRAM : 1100 Enless sensors installed!

Confirmed in 2018 and initiated in 2019, the Le Havre Seine Metropole Global Public Contract for Energy Performance is a major project aimed at renewing the city’s historic buildings to make them more energy efficient.

The contract has been awarded to AUTESYS[FR], energy performance integrator, active in the regions of Ile-de-France, Normandy and Oise (France). For more than 20 years, AUTESYS has developed its expertise in the remote management of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, lighting and energy equipment in the residential, industrial and commercial sectors. The subsidiary has 30 employees distributed over its different sites in France (cities of Le Havre, Rouen and Paris), including 3 people dedicated full time to the Le Havre city project.

The project put in place on behalf of the city of le Havre is major! It concerns nearly 300 connected buildings amongst which many historic sites and Public Access Buildings (schools, museums, swimming pools, town halls, etc.).

SCOPE OF THE MISSION

  • 177 urban community buildings
  • Town halls and urban community centres
  • Swimming pools and skating rinks
  • Sports complexes and concert halls
  • Museum, conservatories and libraries, etc.

The energetic goals of the project are focused on:

– the reduction of energy consumption (gas, electricity, etc.)

– the improvement of user comfort

– the reduction of greenhouse gases

Achieving these goals is planned around 3 principal themes:

The optimisation of heating, the implementation of real-time energy monitoring and centralised management of energy indicators (remote supervision – BMS).

Amongst the requirements to meet is the goal of equipping all the buildings concerned before the end of 2020 and the selection of a non-intrusive and easily installed solution in the existing buildings without interfering with their structural aspects, especially since some of the buildings are historic.

On the monitoring aspect, the use of IoT appears to be the most appropriate answer.

In total, more than 1000 Enless Wireless transmitters, including a majority of air quality measurement sensors have been used to respond to the IAQ regulations in force for Public Access Buildings. The installations have been done in priority as per the Wireless M-Bus 169 MHz private radio communication mode this allowing equipment to be supervised.

The transmitters transmit their data every 10 to 15 minutes to not less than 176 Enless Wireless Modbus receivers, themselves connected to existing TREND and WAGO PLCs, allowing automated supervision operations to be carried out depending upon pre-defined thresholds.

Apart from air quality measurement sensors measuring temperature, relative humidity and CO2 data, about 200 water, gas and electricity meters have also been equipped with Enless Wireless Pulse remote reading transmitters, allowing consumptions to be monitored in real-time.

Several deployments have subsequently involved the Sigfox operated radio mode in response to the constraints and particularities of certain sites to equip, in particular in housing units not having BMSs.

We have been impressed by the reliability of Enless systems and the accuracy of probe values. The implementation of Sigfox and Wireless M-Bus products has been easy and we have not observed any failures amongst the 1095 sensors installed. We have decided to replace all our wireless transmitters dedicated to energy monitoring to Enless Wireless products.” Jean-Marc Eichholtzer, Head of the BMS centre at CRAM.

The analysis of the data collected from the Enless Wireless transmitters in place on site, is done via the centralised panorama E2 supervisor, developed by the AUTESYS teams and also made accessible to the customer’s technical teams with not less than 10 accesses created.

Accessible via a secure cloud and by means of this supervision system, the data collected can be used to remotely optimise building performances monitored by juggling with the energy distribution of the systems, …

These installations allow the CRAM to provide the city of Le Havre in France with a commitment to results in the framework of the Energy Performance Contracts :

Overall, the goals are set for the heating at 20% of energy savings in the 4th year, 11% of which being achieved in the 1st year.

In detail:

  • Reduction of 24% in heating
  • Reduction of 18% in electricity for swimming pools & skating rinks
  • Reduction of 26% of swimming pool water
  • 21,700 tonnes of CO2 saved
  • Reduction of 6.6% of electricity overall

The CRAM subsidiary AUTESYS also collaborates with Enless Wireless in several other projects. In particular, the equipping of a Hospital in Grugny city (France) is under way for the end of 2020 …
